It's shorthand for Virtual Storage. The storage space that can be regarded as addressable main memory by the user of a computer system in which the virtual addresses are mapped to actual addresses. It is the virtual storage size is limited by the addressing scheme of the computer system and the amount of auxiliary storage, not by the actual number of main storage locations. See also storage.
